By Car
To reach La Casa del Árbol from Baños, follow E30/Vía a Baños, and then turn right onto Vía a Runtun. It’s a quick 30-minute drive from downtown Baños.
Once you arrive, there are designated parking areas where you can leave your car. From there, it’s just a short 5-minute walk uphill to the swing. However, be prepared—the path can be quite steep and slippery. We found it really helpful to wear sturdy shoes for better grip. The short hike was totally worth it once we reached the swing!
By Bus
If you prefer public transportation, regular buses run to La Casa del Árbol from the Bus Hacia la Casa del Árbol terminal in downtown Baños. This bus terminal is conveniently located on Pastaza Street, right across from Panaderia La Delicia Don Gato bakery.
We found this option to be both budget-friendly and convenient, especially if you want to avoid the hassle of parking. Plus, it’s a great way to enjoy the scenic route on your way up!
By Private Tour or Taxi
If you’re looking to avoid the crowds that often come with public buses, taking a taxi or booking a private tour is a great alternative. There are plenty of local tour companies in Baños that offer private trips to La Casa del Árbol.
We noticed that just strolling around downtown Baños reveals tons of options and deals. It’s definitely worth comparing prices and packages to find one that suits your schedule. Plus, a private tour often comes with the added bonus of flexibility and comfort!
By Hike
For those who crave a bit more adventure, you can actually hike from Baños to La Casa del Árbol. Although we didn’t take this route ourselves, we learned that there’s a trail leading all the way up that takes about 3 hours one way.
Keep in mind, this hike is no walk in the park—it’s a steep uphill climb the entire way, with a significant elevation gain. It’s definitely not for the faint-hearted! If you decide to take on this challenge, be sure to pack plenty of water, some snacks, and a rain jacket just in case. Don’t forget a flashlight in case it gets dark, and definitely wear slip-resistant hiking shoes. It’s the kind of trek where preparation is key!
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit The Swing At The End Of The World is definitely on a clear, sunny day. The views are absolutely stunning when the skies are clear, as you’ll get to see the Tungurahua volcano in all its glory. On overcast or gloomy days, the volcano can be completely hidden, which might take away from the experience.
At an elevation of 2,600 meters (8,500 feet), the air can get pretty chilly, so it’s smart to bring a sweater or jacket. We recommend arriving early to beat the crowds and have a more peaceful experience swinging over the edge of the world!
How Much Time to Spend in the Swing at the End of the World?
You should plan for at least 1-2 hours to fully enjoy The Swing At The End Of The World. It takes around 30-45 minutes to drive up to La Casa del Árbol. Once there, you’ll want to account for some time to wait in line, take photos, grab a drink or snack, and then make your way back to Baños.
We went on a weekday, arriving around 12 p.m., and were pleasantly surprised to find it almost empty. It was a Monday, so we had plenty of time to enjoy the swings, soak in the views, and snap some great photos. However, if you’re planning to visit on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, be prepared for bigger crowds. Arriving early in the morning is definitely the way to go if you want to avoid long lines and have the place more to yourself!
What Else to Do Nearby?
If you have some extra time and love a bit of a thrill, you should definitely check out the Torre Al Cielo swing, which is right next to The Swing At The End Of The World. Unlike the classic swing, this one is more extreme. A guide will actually push you out over a steep drop-off, and the swing rotates 360 degrees upside down! Definitely not for the faint-hearted but perfect for adrenaline junkies.
While you’re in Baños, there are plenty of other adventurous activities to explore. Hiking is especially popular here. One of the top routes is the trek to the Bellavista viewpoint, which takes about 45 minutes to reach. Be prepared for a bit of a workout, as the climb involves some elevation.
